Several Ripon High School JROTC cadets are only days away from making a trip of a lifetime to the nation’s capital.

The trip to Washington, D.C., comes as a result of an invitation from  Congressman Jerry McNerney subsequent to watching their performance at the Veteran’s Day Celebration held in Modesto last year. The cadets and a few chaperones will be making the trip to D.C. starting March 14 through March 21. They will be performing their Color Guard, Rifle and Saber routines at several different Memorials in the D.C. The cadets, the Ripon High School JROTC staff and many parents have worked diligently in raising funds to make the trip a reality. The number of groups and individuals that have participated in the fundraising are too numerous to list but a partial list includes Ripon VFW, Ripon American Legion, Soroptimist International of Ripon, CW 31 of Sacramento, Mt Mikes of Ripon, Pizza Guys of Modesto/Ceres, Salida Steelers Youth Football Organization, and dozens of individual donations were collected during the recent Almond Blossom Festival. Due to intense fundraising the cadets are now only a few dollars away from meeting their financial goal.
