SACRAMENTO – The offense has arrived at East Union.

The Lancers picked up a pair of wins Saturday at Sacramento’s Tournament of Champions to finish 4-1, their best performance ever at the elite tournament.

Last year in a 12-inning affair with Casa Robles, hurler Whitney Waltrip rang up 23 Lancers.

Highlighted by Kourtni McCall’s second-inning two-run blast, East Union exploded on Whitney on the way to an impressive 6-1 win that head coach Brian Goulart described as the best game EU has played in a long while.

“That’s as good as it gets for us,” he said.

McCall, who pitched a four-strikeout four-hitter, went 3 for 4, and Cassie Waggy was perfect, going 4 for 4.

Brittany LaMar added a 2-for-4 day and Cherie DeJesus was 2 for 4.
In the nightcap, East Union knocked off Vintage, 7-3.

Jillian Goulart, Waggy and DeJesus all went 2 for 4 and LaMar was 2 for 3.

Ally Palluck went three before McCall (0 H, 4 K) closed it out.

“For as many hits as we had, we had just as many line-outs,” Goulart said. “The defense was rock solid. It’s good timing for us. (TOC) is a tough tournament and we’ve never come out of it 4-1.”

The Lancers will now prepare for what promises to be an intriguing Valley Oak League campaign.

EU takes on Sonora on the road Wednesday before hosting Oakdale Friday.
