• Sierra High wine social on Saturday: The Sierra High School Athletic Boosters wine social is Saturday, April 9, at the Delicato Winery at 12001 S. Highway 99 from 6 to 8 p.m.

There are raffle prizes, silent auction items, finger foods, and, of course wine.

The tickets are $15 per person. You can get tickets by contacting Melissa Coffee (209-380-5511), Greg Leland (209) 858-7410, ext. 57419, or any of the Sierra High coaches.  

• ‘Arms and the Man’ comedy at UOP
: STOCKTON -  The University of the Pacific Theatre Arts is presenting a riotously funny comedy by playwright George Bernard Shaw, Arms and the Man. Directed by Gary Armagnac and featuring a stellar cast, audiences will love the wit, mistaken identities, and surprises that abound in this production’s intelligent satire of love and war.

The April 8, 9, 13, and 14 performances begin at 8 p.m. A matinee is offered on April 10 at 2 p.m. A special performance for high school and community college students is available by arrangement with the department.

• McParland omelet & pancake breakfast
: The George McParland School eighth-grade class is conducting an omelet and pancake fundraiser on Saturday, April 9, from 7 a.m. to noon in the school cafeteria.

The cost is $6 at the door.

• MJC Astronomy Club hosts sky viewing
: MODESTO -  The Modesto Junior College Astronomy Club will hold a night sky viewing on Friday, April 8,  to 10 p.m. on the Science Building Lawn on MJC’s East Campus, located at 435 College Avenue.  The MJC telescopes will be trained on several objects in the April sky.  The public is invited to participate in this astronomy event, and admission and campus parking are free.

• Celebrate Earth Day at Manteca Library: The Manteca Branch  Library presents Celebrate Earth Day on Friday, April 22, at 1 p.m.

Participants will enjoy books and songs, with an Earth Day theme, followed by crafts utilizing recycled materials. Continue learning about our earth and environmentally conscious choices by checking out books, reviewing online databases, and searching the Internet.

This free program is provided through the generosity of the Friends of the Manteca Library.  The Manteca Branch Library is a part of the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library and is located at 320 W. Center St.

• A crab feed with a medieval twist: Here’s a crab feed with a medieval twist. At this fund-raiser, there will be costumed characters appearing as knights in armor and others in medieval costumes who will be serving guests “in a Lordly way.”

The event, to take place April 9 at the Manteca Senior Center at 295 Cherry Lane in Manteca, will benefit the Society for Creative Anachronism which will provide the entertainment. They will be staging a display of martial skills, and will put on several display tables showing the various medieval arts and crafts that members of the group make.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The dinner will be catered by Davinci’s Delicatessen. Cost is $35 per person. For tickets, call Scott Tibbedeaux at (209) 932-9785.
