It all came down to Marc Leon and Harman Baines Tuesday at Manteca High.

With the rest of the day’s action complete and the score knotted at seven apiece, Leon came back from a 5-4, 30-love deficit to claim a 7-5 win and give his Buffaloes a huge 8-7 win over Ceres.

“Marc was a little tougher mentally, it all came down who could handle the pressure better,” Manteca head coach Frank Fontana said. “He was able to keep a few more balls in play.”

No. 1 Yassen Aniss had a difficult day, falling to Luis Ochoa 6-1 before falling behind 5-3 to Baines.

Aniss pulled out the win 7-5, and knocked off Wilson Lang 6-0.

No. 2 Arnie Morales fell 6-0 to Ochoa before picking up 6-3, 6-0 wins.

Leon fell 6-1 to Ochoa and 7-5 to Lang.

In doubles play, Alex McAdams and Kyle Morten lost 10-5 and won 10-1, while Max Angelo and Alex Barragan also split, 11-10 (7-4), 10-1.

“(The win) kept us in league title contention,” Fontana said. “At least three times during the three hours I thought we were going to lose, there were so many momentum swings, and a lot of close matches.”

Manteca (3-0 Valley Oak League) travels to East Union Thursday.

Sonora 12.5, Weston Ranch 2.5

In Stockton, the Cougars No. 1 tandem, Steven Ho and JoVincent Legaspi, produced the lone doubles win, a 10-6 victory over Sonora’s No. 2 duo.

Ho and Legaspi fell 4-10 in their first match, while Russell Espiritu and Rocky Langas dropped a pair, 3-10, 4-10.

In singles action, No. 1 Satinder Singh fell 1-6, 1-6 before winning 6-3.

Chris Legaspi dropped three, 0-6, 3-6, 1-6, and Mike Tongpolad fell 0-6, 1-6, 1-6.

“It was a great learning experience,” Cougars head coach Jason Furtado said. “We weren’t intimidated. We played our game, and I’m proud of them for that.”

Weston Ranch (1-2 VOL, 2-2) travels to Sierra Thursday.
