Fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damage to a home in the 1100 block of Shasta Street shortly before 10 p.m. Monday night.

Kirk Waters, interim Manteca Fire Chief, said the house sustained $7,000 in damage with the contents adding another $3,000.

Firemen arrived on the scene to find the one-story home fully charged with smoke, he said.

They located the fire in an office to the rear of the home that extended into the living areas.

Firefighters aggressively brought the fire under control and provided for salvage to protect the contents of the residence.  They prevented the fire from spreading into the living areas of the home.

A smoke detector was credited with alerting the occupants who fled the residence before firemen arrived on the scene.

Waters said the occupants did a good job of getting out of the house and going to a safe meeting place as well as notifying the arriving firemen that everyone was safely out of the house.

Fourteen fire personnel arrived on the scene including one engine from the Lathrop-Manteca Fire Department.
