Manteca head coach Dave Fontanilla asked for a 240 from his squad heading into a match with Weston Ranch Wednesday afternoon at Manteca Park Golf Course.

The Buffaloes did their coach 11 strokes better.

Led by Kenny Summers’ 2-over-par 39, Manteca moved to 3-3 in Valley Oak League play with a 229-259 win.

“It was probably our best round of the year,” Fontanilla said. “Kenny is hitting the ball out of this world. His confidence is up and he’s playing awesome. I hope he keeps it up.”

Thanks to a tireless work ethic, Summers has improved exponentially from a season ago, and his example appears to be inspiring his teammates.

Nick Gonzales shot a 42, while both Jeremy Resuello and Daniel Chavez turned in 47’s.

Casey Benson carded a 54, and Dylan Craig turned in the throw-out, a 57.

Ryan Ortiz paced the Cougars with a 44, and Jessie Aragon had a 46.

Tim Weatherwax shot a 53, Darrell Narcisse a 55, and Tim Medeiros a 61.

Manteca host Sonora Tuesday before travelling to Oakdale Thursday.

“Two big matches,” Fontanilla said. “It’s going to be an important week for us.”
