Elaine Thompson knows that people are going to enjoy themselves at the annual murder mystery dinner held every year to benefit the Manteca CAPS program that cares for developmentally disabled adults.

It’s something that they’ve been doing for almost a decade – turning the themed event into a community staple that helps one of Manteca’s largest non-profits raise enough money to offer the services that they’ve been providing to the community for more than 30 years.

With a Mardi Gras Mayhem dress-up theme sure to bring out plenty of masks and beads, Thompson – a member of the Manteca CAPS Board of Directors – is expecting another grand time all in the name of charity when the event kicks off on March 28th with no-host cocktails at 6 and dinner at 7 p.m.

“People like coming out and having a costumed theme event where they can unwind, and the murder mystery dinner adds another element to the fundraiser,” Thompson said. “Plus it’s really our only fundraiser of the year, so it’s an important event for Manteca CAPS in terms of being able to offer the services we provide to the community.

“People enjoy having a hand in that.”

The dinner will also be held in conjunction with the second annual Biker’s Bedlam Poker Run that starts at 10 a.m. at Eagles Nest Harley Davidson in Lathrop on the same day – featuring a ride up through the foothills to various locations before it finishes at the Senior Center for the Mardi Gras event. A 50/50 split will be awarded to the winning hand.

Tickets for the dinner will be $30 per person, and can be obtained from any Manteca CAPS board member or by calling the office at 239-5050. The fee to participate in the poker run is $25 per person and $50 for both the poker run and the murder mystery dinner that includes five free raffle tickets. Passengers will be charged $20, and $50 if they wish to attend to the dinner.
