• Memorial parade entries due May 21: Marine Colonel Adrian W. Burke is tentatively scheduled to serve as the grand marshal for the Manteca Memorial Day parade on May 30.

The second annual event will start at 11:30 a.m. in downtown Manteca along Yosemite Avenue following traditional graveside ceremonies of those who have served America at East Union Cemetery.

The entry fee for the parade is $50. For more information on entries contact the Manteca Chamber of Commerce at 823-7229. Organizers are asking that entries be submitted by May 21.



• Museum seeks art show entries: Entries are now open for the 2nd Annual Art in the Afternoon show and sale, sponsored by the Manteca Historical Society. The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 21, in the museum parking lot.

The art show and sale entries will be limited to those living in Manteca and Lathrop and cost for each booth is $10. These funds will be used to help defray costs for refreshments which will be served throughout the afternoon affair.

Artists can contact Evelyn Prouty at 982-0339 for entry forms, or they can stop by the museum, open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1 to 3 p.m., Thursdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.

In addition to local works of art, the afternoon will offer finger foods, beverages and music. The event is free to the public.



• Sweet Harmony concert May 17
: RIPON — Sweet Harmony - a four part women’s a cappella chorus - will stage a free concert on Tuesday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ripon Senior Center, 433 South Wilma Ave.

Also performing will be a harp ensemble dubbed the “Heart Strings.”

While there is no admission donations will be accepted to benefit the Ripon Library.



• Lathrop Boosters dinner-dance May 14: LATHROP — The Lathrop High School Athletic Boosters’ second annual dinner-dance takes place Saturday, May 14, at the River Islands office, 73 W. Stewart Road.

There is a no-host bar from 5 to 6 p.m. with dinner and dancing from 6 to 11 p.m.

Dinner consists of tri-tip, pasta, salad, roll, drink and dessert.

The cost is $30 per person. You must be 21 or older to attend.



• Lathrop Celebration performers needed: LATHROP — The 2011 Lathrop Celebration Committee is looking for local entertainers, singers, dancers and artists to provide entertainment at this year’s event on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Do you have the urge to be on stage? The City of Lathrop’s Annual Lathrop Celebration is looking for local dancers, singers, bands and entertainers to help jazz up our event. They want entertainers who have skill and talent performing in front of live audiences.

Local entertainers and teens can apply for the Saturday stage show and teens can apply for the South County Teen Idol Contest. Entertainers and groups interested in participating in the Lathrop Celebration event should contact Ana Candelaria at (209) 679-0556.



• Stockton Chorale plans June concert: STOCKTON — The Stockton Chorale will be performing works that honor our veterans and celebrate the rich musical tapestry that is our American Heritage. The concert performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at the Central United Methodist Church, 3700 Pacific Ave.

Single concert tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are general admission and may be purchased by calling the Stockton Chorale office at (209) 951-6494, through any Chorale member, on our web site at www.stocktonchorale.org, or at the door.
