One-day registration available for MUSD, Scott Brooks basketball clinic

Registration is still available for this week’s Manteca Unified School District basketball camp at Lathrop High.

A one-day pass is offered for Friday’s session with Lathrop native and Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks at a price of $25. A t-shirt and lunch are included with the fee. Friday’s camp will run from 2 to 5 p.m.

The five-day camp tipped off Monday with coaches from the East Union, Lathrop and Weston Ranch boys basketball programs providing instruction.

To sign up, simply show up at least 15 minutes prior to the camp to fill out the registration form and pay the fee.

MBSA: Manteca Baseball Softball Academy is hosting a summer camp series starting this week at 640 Industrial Park Drive.

The nine-week series will resume June 13-16 with the final session set for July 4-7. The camps will run Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $100 per week.

A maximum of 10 campers will be instructed per week. Sibling discounts are available.

The Manteca Sportsman Club will be holding a 3D archery shoot every Thursday from 4-7:30 p.m. starting June 16. The last shot will be held Aug. 11.

The shoot will consist of at least 14 3D animals which archer will be allowed two shots and each using arrows with field points only. No broadheads are allowed on the range.

The cost to members and the public is $8.

All shooters must register at the clubhouse prior to entering the archery range.

SIERRA OPEN GYM: Sierra High’s volleyball program will continue open gym tonight from 6-7:30. Players are to meet in front of the long gym.

Additional open-gym dates are June 23, 27, 28 and 30.

EU CONDITIONING: East Union will start conditioning June 21 and 22. Additional conditioning dates are: June 28-30, July 12-14 and July 19-21. All practices will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Conditioning does not guarantee a spot on the team but is highly recommended. Attendance will be taken daily, and points given to those who attend. Points will also be including during the tryout process.

All paperwork must be completed to participate in conditioning and tryouts.

EU CAMP: East Union High’s volleyball program will be holding its 3rd annual camp Aug. 8 and 9 from 3-5 p.m. at Dalben Center.

Cost to register is $30 per camper. Checks are payable to East Union Volleyball.

Camp brochures must be filled out prior to participation. They are available in the East Union administration office as well as the day of the camp.

LATHROP CAMP: Lathrop High is conducting its Spartan Volleyball Skills Camp June 27-July 1 from 9 a.m. to noon on each day.

Cost for each participant is $20. Campers will receive a t-shirt upon completion of the clinic.

RC CAMP: Ripon Christian is hosting its 5th Annual Knights Volleyball Summer Camp July 12-15. Each session will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

The camp will be instructed by longtime coaches Tiger and Michelle Shelton, Delta Valley director Richard Chan, former Stanford player Katie Goldhahn and former Delta College head coaches Brad Friesen and Molly Mordaunt.

Incoming ninth graders are encouraged to attend. Cost is $75 per camper, who will each receive a t-shirt.

The National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers is holding a clinic at De Salle High School in Concord July 16, 9 a.m. to noon.

Oakland Raiders stadium announcer Gary Williams will offer hands-on training behind the mic.

Cost is $55 for adults who register before June 15, and $65 after. The fee for students is $25 for early registration, and $35 for late. NASPAA members will receive a $10 discount.

The Spreckels Park BMX track in Manteca holds American Bicycle Association BMX-sanctioned races on Sunday afternoons. Signups to participate are from 2-4 p.m. with races beginning soon after.

Required equipment includes a helmet, long sleeves or elbow pads and long pants. Bicycles will go through a safety check at the track.

You must be an ABA member to race. Memberships can be obtained on race day. An annual membership costs $45, and the fee to enter a race is $10. Admission is free for spectators, and the track is open on non-race days from dawn to dusk, free of charge.
