The Manteca Adult School’s new location will have its benefits.

So says Principal Diane Medeiros during the first day of registration for fall classes on Wednesday.

The Manteca Unified program consisting of GED preparation classes, English as a Second Language and vocational courses recently moved from its long-time home at Lindbergh School to the district office complex at 2271 W. Louise Ave.

“I think our centralized location will be better for our students,” said Medeiros, who indicated the new site as being easily accessible throughout the district as compared to Lindbergh. “All operations are in the same building.”

The district facility consists of two large classrooms capable of accommodating 60 students along with two teachers. Included is the computer lab in the West Conference Room.

“We really appreciated the support we received from the maintenance and Industrial Technology departments,” said Medeiros. “I.T. had the tough task of reconfiguring all of our computers.”

The Manteca Adult School can be found in the old portable units along Louise Avenue that once occupied the Ed. Services Department prior to the construction of the three-storied administration building.

The structure was also home to the Special Ed. Program and, later, used as storage.

The transition to move the Adult School program into the MUSD complex site began on June 1.

“We worked almost every day this summer, eight hours, setting up,” said Medeiros, who has been principal of the program for the past two years.

She also oversees the program at the Lathrop Adult Education Center – next to Lathrop Elementary School – consisting of ESL, computer applications, and career education classes, and will help in the Adult Transition class offered at Manteca High for those ages 18 to 22.

The Manteca Adult School reported several hundreds who came early on this first day of registration. Some were seeking to complete their high school diploma.

The first day of instruction is Aug. 29.

The program consists of teachers and staff working closely with students to help them meet and reach their educational and personal goals.

Registration period is scheduled to continue through Aug. 26. A photo I.D. will be required.

The Manteca Adult School is open Mondays through Thursdays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
