RIPON — Back-to-back Ripon errors led to five unearned Hughson runs in a six-run second and the Huskies went on to beat the Indians 10-0 Tuesday at Ripon High.

Kirsten Mortimer went the first 1 2/3 innings before Kendra Contente took over.

Alyssa Vickers roped a double and Rachel Rodriguez had a single, accounting for Ripon’s only offense.

“(Hughson) put pressure on us with their bats,” Ripon head coach Robert Vernon said. “We were unable to field bunts, and we’ve got to give that a look. They capitalized on a weakness.”

Contente allowed one run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

“We’re playing better, and we’re working hard at it,” Vernon said. “But against MC, Escalon and now Hughson, we’ve given up that one big inning where we’ve had mental lapses.”

The Indians will look to rebound Thursday when they head to Modesto Christian.

A home tilt against Ripon Christian follows Tuesday.
