Born Sept. 8, 1918, 92 years of age. Herman went into the Army in 1940. He was stationed at Ft. Ord in California, until 1942. He was shipped to France for a few months before going to Germany in 1943. Herman was a Buck Sgt. and was in the Military Police. He was assigned to Major Gen Harris and Major Gen Melasky as their personal bodyguard. Herman won the Bronze Star for this work and bravery while on duty. Herman helped rescue many Jewish people that were in Bougainville Concentration Camp. He will never forget what he saw in those camps. He hopes no one will ever forget. Herman has many stories to tell if someone from the paper would like to interview him. Herman lost his wife of 62 years in February 2011. He has two sons and a daughter. He lost one of his sons many years ago.
