Born & raised in Lathrop, son of the late Frank R. & Etelvina Mendes, brother of 3. He was drafted into the Army in 1950 and served as a Corporal in North Korea. He was reported missing in action August 7, 1951 just a few days after his 25th birthday. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
