Boomer Plata has a senior project in the works that’s part public relations and philanthropy.

For the short term, the East Union High student is currently involved in a yard sale, with proceeds being used to help send a youngster with financial hardships to a summer camp hosted by Sequoia Heights Baptist Church.

The three-day yard sale at 1241 Frank Ave. kicked off Thursday and continues today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Included are bikes, typewriters, sewing machines, pictures, costumes, baskets, dishes, electronics, baby items, toys, games, clothes, a dog house, car carrier, and other knick-knack items.

Special guest will be camp mascot, Chipper and Ranger Dave.

According to Plata’s mother, Angel, the cost of sending a youngster to this summer camp is $2,500.
