DELHI — Ripon Christian scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and defeat Delhi 35-7 in Southern League action Friday.

The Knights likely need to win out for a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth and are in position to place third in league should they win out. Next is Waterford, which upset second-place Mariposa 21-14 Friday.

“I thought we played real well,” Knights coach John Vander Schaaf said. “This was our best game of the year and it was against a good opponent in Delhi with five wins this season.”

Danny Vos had nearly 200 yards of offense for Ripon Christian (3-2, 4-4 overall), gaining 82 yards on 16 carries and completing 8-of-20 passes for 116 yards with a 4-yard scoring pass to Chris Saenz for the first Knights touchdown of the night.

Vos scored on a 5-yard run and finished with 198 yards of offense.

Andrew Brown (16 carries, 82 yards; three receptions, 72 yards) scored on runs of 2 and 3 yards, and Jacob Ruther put the game out of reach when he returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown and the game’s last score.

“Andrew (Brown) had a great game,” Vander Schaaf said. “He ran the ball really well and there were some great holes made for him.”

The Knights defense held the potent ground game of the Hawks (3-2, 5-3) in check with Brown, Conner Adams and Mason Veilleux (interception) each recovering a fumble.

“It was big that we were able to hold them to just seven points,” Vander Schaaf said.
