The distinct talents of two Manteca performers – one relatively new to the music scene and another that has built up a following who her piano-driven vocals – will be showcased tonight at Modesto’s J Street Café.

Reggie Ginn (Mary Wells) will take the stage at 7 p.m. for an all-ages show that will allow the budding singer-songwriter to play near the family and friends that support her in her endeavors.

Amanda Gray of Braata will open the night with her own solo performance.

“Honestly I get a little bit more nervous about playing shows that are close to my family and friends – there’s kind of an irony in that,” Ginn said of playing local venues. “But I love all-ages shows because it doesn’t limit your crowd base to just one group of people and allows everyone to enjoy the music.

“I like having my parents able to come to my shows so that’s an advantage of playing in the Central Valley, but I love playing anywhere.”

It will be the first time that Ginn will be playing at the J Street Café – located just a stone’s throw away from downtown Modesto’s “five corners” – where she’ll have the comfort of having another Manteca solo artist playing on the same night.
“I’ve heard her play before, and she’s really talented,” Ginn said of Gray’s music. “I think our styles will really complement each other and allow for a great show.”

On top of her involvement with the Manteca Idol competition, Ginn has become a regular on the Manteca music scene with regular stints at the now-defunct Vintners Cellar and Chez Shari under her belt. She said she also loves playing at Kelley Bros.
