NAME: Bryson Stonum

JOB: Coffeemaker/Barista at Bean and Leaf Café

BORN: Manteca

AGE: 18

HIGH SCHOOL: Set to graduate in the spring of 2012 from East Union High

HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: Baseball

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM YOUR PARENTS
: Perseverance.

GREATEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO HIM: “Throwing a no-hitter in a baseball game. That’s something that I’ll never forget:

PET PEEVE: “When people scratch their face when talking to you. Reminds me of a cat. It’s weird.”

LAST NICE THING A STRANGER DID: “I had the guitar player from All That Remains come over and take a picture with me. That was pretty cool.”

FAVORITE DINING HAUNT & MENU ITEM: “Famous Dave in Tracy. The baby back ribs. Those are the best.”

BEST GIFT EVER RECEIVED: “The house that we live in now. My grandparents gave it to my mother and my brother and I so we didn’t have to live in an apartment anymore. You can’t ask for anything more than that.”

IDEA OF A GREAT DAY: “I’d wake up and there would be a full bag of cereal and a full carton of milk – I’d have the perfect shower and then it would be nice and sunny outside. There wouldn’t be any drama – everybody would be out doing their own thing.”

CURRENT BOOK READING: “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins

FAVORITE PLACE TO GO IN MANTECA: Bean and Leaf Café

FAVORITE MOVIE: “Forrest Gump”

FAVORITE ACTOR AND WHY? “Zach Galifanakis – he’s just funny.”

BIGGEST CHANGE IN MANTECA OVER PAST 10 YEARS: “I think that getting Bass Pro Shops here was a pretty big deal. It’s bringing in a lot of people and it’s helped to put Manteca on the map.”

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT CHANGES IN MANTECA: “There’s more to do in town now than there used to be. There are things over there to try and hopefully there are more things coming.”

BEST ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE SOMEONE: “Just let it be. Don’t go making everything into a huge deal.”

FAVORITE GETAWAY
: “Music. I’m the kind of person that can just put in my headphones all of a sudden nobody’s there. It’s the most peaceful thing to do, and it’s so easy. I love it.”

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR EXERCISE? “Work out at In-Shape.”

HARDEST THING YOU EVER HAD TO DO?
“Being a pallbearer at my grandmother’s funeral. We were close.”

WHO DO YOU ADMIRE? “My mom. As a single mom raising two kids on her own – I have a lot of respect for what she’s been able to do and continues to do.”

IF YOU WERE SOMEONE ELSE AND YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE WHAT KIND OF PERSON BRYCE WAS WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? “I’d say that I’m fun and outgoing and I’m the kind of person that would do something just to prove you wrong – just to show you that I could do it. I’ve always kind of been that way.”

WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE 10 YEARS FROM NOW?
“Hitting homeruns for the New York Yankees – playing centerfield.”

WHAT WOULD YOU MISS THE MOST IF YOU COULD NO LONGER DO YOUR JOB? “I’d have to say the people. You really get to know the customers and what they like to drink and a little bit about what it is that they do – some of them kind of become like friends. And then the people that work here – there are all of these different personalities but we all work so well together.”

WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN?
“That no matter what, the Red White and Blue doesn’t ever run. It’s something that’s always in you.”

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL WHEN YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
“To have the best day possible.”

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MANTECA HAVE THAT IT CURRENTLY DOESN’T? “A minor league baseball team. If Stockton and Modesto can have one, why can’t we?”
