POSTED January 7, 2012 1:49 a.m.

COPPEROPOLIS – Copperopolis Town Square – the events, shopping and entertainment gathering place in Calaveras County – will host the “4th Annual Copper Chili Cookoff” Saturday, Jan. 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., bringing together cooks of all styles.

Admission is free and chili tasting is $5 for guests (10 and over).

The competition continues to grow due to recipes allowing more flexibility of ingredients such as beans.

The event will also feature entertainment including live music from Copper Holding Company, pony rides and mechanical bull-riding contests.

A special 50/50 raffle will benefit California Department of Forestry fire captain Sue Arrouzet, who was seriously injured in a structure fire on Nov. 12. Raffle tickets are available during the event or in advance at Snap’s Coffee House & Wine Bar and several businesses in the Copperopolis Town Square as well as Saddle Creek Resort, located just four miles down the road.

“Whether you enjoy spicy or mild chili, we encourage the community to come out and taste them all at the 4th Annual Copper Chili Cookoff, one of the most highly anticipated events of the year,” says Linda Stefanick, Vice President and Event Director for Castle & Cooke Calaveras, Inc. “This annual tradition is sure to provide an aroma of fresh ingredients and lively music to entertain our crowd of chili cooks, families and guests at Copperopolis Town Square.”

Copperopolis Town Square is situated in the rolling foothills of the Central Sierra on Highway 4 in Calaveras County, two hours from the Bay Area and 1.5 hours from Sacramento. The area offers visitors a wide variety of amenities and activities including golf, tennis and dining at acclaimed Saddle Creek Resort with accommodations for guests in luxurious Lodge Bungalows conveniently located within a few paces of the golf course.
