‘Seussical’ the musical underway at Sierra

Sierra High’s advanced theater and advanced choir students are teaming up to perform “Seussical” – the stage production that brings the bizarre and imaginative world of Dr. Seuss – at the school’s black-box theater.

The entire story is predicated on the imagination of a young boy who is encouraged by The Cat in the Hat to think up anything that he wants – eventually creating the Jungle of Nool that is ripe with all kinds of characters ranging from a sour kangaroo to a group of mischievous monkeys known as the Wickershams.

Upcoming shows are today at 3 p.m., and April 23-25 (Thursday through Saturday) at 7 p.m.

Tickets for students and adults are $7 and seniors and children under 6 are $4. Tickets are available at the theater box office.

Everything’s Groovy at Lathrop High
“Everything’s Groovy” is a one hour mini-musical tribute to the 1960s being staged as Lathrop High’s first musical.

It runs in the Lathrop High School Theatre for two weekends - Friday and Saturday, April 17 & 18 and Friday and Saturday April 24 & 25. The show begins at 7p.m. each evening. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, which will open at 6:30 each evening.  They can also be purchased in advance from Mrs. Puett at Lathrop High School

Tickets prices are $5 for general admission and $3 for senior citizens or students with an ID card.

Travis, Muriel, and Alice work to make their free concert – “Music, Beads, and Flowers” happen.  Life gets difficult for them when Mrs. Porter along with the sheriff try to prevent the concert from running. Throw in some trouble with the Lemon Bugs and a mad dog running around and the show might be over before the first note is sung.

The musical stars Nickolas Riker as Travis, Megan Shelton as Muriel, and Shauna Hinson as Alice.  The play just would not be the same without other interesting characters such as Iris, Hippie Girl with Flute, Swashbuckler and Tony.

“Measure M” oversight committee openings
Manteca Unified School District is currently seeking interested parents/individuals to fill three vacant committee seats which will become open in June.

Measure M is a General Obligation Bond approved by the voters within the Manteca Unified School District area in the General Election of March 2, 2004. As required by law the Manteca USD Board of Trustees established and appointed a citizens’ oversight committee. The purpose of the committee is to “inform the public at least annually in a written report, concerning the expenditure of the Measure M Bond proceeds.” Committee members, who are volunteers from the community, are appointed by the Board of Trustees to serve a term of two years.

The Measure M Citizens’ Oversight Committee meets on a quarterly basis on the second Wednesday of the month (September, December, March & June) at 6 p.m. in the Manteca USD Boardroom.
