RIPON — Kyle Wagner opened the scoring with a solo shot, and ended the game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh Friday at Ripon High, where the Indians completed a two-game, non-league sweep of Hilmar with a 3-2 win.

Wagner finished the contest 4 for 4 with two RBIs.

“The last two games, Kyle has taken the team on his shoulders,” Ripon skipper Mark Whelan said. “It was a great ballgame, we were depleted with just 10 players including a sophomore call-up, but we were fantastic. We made just one error.”

Sophomore Justin Scott got the call from the big club and was fantastic in his start, tossing five innings of two-run ball on five hits.

Mike Mannix closed it out and was the pitcher of record.

On the road Wednesday, Francisco Gustin was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Camden Dowhower (3 for 3, 2 RBIs) led off the contest with a solo shot.

Ripon is 7-4 in its last 11 outings.

“It’s really nice,” Whelan said. “We’re starting to make strides. We’re looking forward to the Hughson series next week.”

Ripon (5-4 Trans Valley League, 7-9) opens the pivotal home-and-home with the Huskies on the road Wednesday.
