Spartans explode at the plate, pummel Central Valley

The bats were on and popping Tuesday in Lathrop as the Spartans sophomore softball team spanked Central Valley, 23-1.

Britney Rallios was 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while Krystal Ruiz went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Alicia Erlandson got the start and allowed just one hit through three innings of work, striking out one.

Lathrop (2-6-1 Valley oak League, 5-9-1) hosts Ceres Thursday.

Freshman
East Union 12, Golden Valley 1
In Merced, Haleigh Castner was fantastic, tossing a two-hitter with five strikeouts.

Lauren Hart was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, whole both Ashley Duenas and Gianna Sellers went 2 for 4.

East Union (4-0 VOL, 17-0) travels to Oakdale this afternoon.

BASEBALL
East Union 6, Sonora 3
The Lancers took control with a four-spot in the fourth inning highlighted by RBI knocks from TeeJay Gordon and Justin Dias (2 for 3).

Logan Miller was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Steven Gigli scored two runs on three walks.

Colby Seibel struck out five in five innings of work.

EU (6-4 VOL, 7-6) travels to Sonora Thursday.

Manteca 8, Ceres 7
Corey Van Warmerdam picked up with win with two innings of relief work.

Michael Timmins had two hits, two runs scored and three stolen bases, while Zack Gase went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and two RBIs.

The series shifts to Ceres Thursday.

Oakdale 4, Sierra 2
Adrian Valencia went six, allowing two earned on four hits with six strikeouts, but it wouldn’t be enough.

Alex Arreola, Bret Wilson and Aaron Manuta accounted for Sierra’s three hits.

The T’Wolves threatened in every inning but struggled with clutch knocks.

Oakdale visits Sierra High Thursday.

SOCCER
Sierra 7, Central Valley 0
In Ceres, Niki Walden had two goals, while KC Rodriguez, Amber Parker, Jacqueline Revives, Maryann Baker and Stephanie Davis found net once each.

Sierra (10-0 VOL, 16-1) hosts Oakdale Thursday.

Manteca 5, Ceres 2
In Ceres, Rocio Lopez had two goals for the victorious Buffs, as did Amanda Michaelis.

Rupika Pabla added a fifth.

Megan Klump and Kayleigh Vazquez were pivotal on the defensive end.

East Union 3, Sonora 0
In Sonora, Alejandra Alvarez scored one and Stephanie Sabala had two goals in the win.

Jagjeet Dhillon and Melissa Gomez had an assist each.

Denise Armstrong preserved the shutout with a penalty kick save.

The Squires host Ceres Thursday.
