RIPON – Ripon Christian’s girls went without a loss Tuesday afternoon at Ripon High, as the Knights knocked off the Indians, 5-2, in Trans Valley League tennis play.

Katie den Dulk led the way in singles action, downing Ashley McCoy, 6-1, 6-2, and setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
RC swept the girls doubles matches, as Colleen Kamper and Katelyn Hicks upended Julianna Pace and Elissa Hollingsheck, 6-3, 6-4, and Kelcie Carvalho and Denise Dole downed Nekay Sandoval and Vanessa Gunter, 6-1, 6-1.

RC claimed the No. 2 boys doubles match when Aaron Van Laar and Brad Kamper downed Kyle Mendel and Matt Clark, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Knights also picked up the mixed doubles win as Landon Tillema and Amanda Thatcher upended Ryan Liang and Lina Alarahi, 6-0, 6-1.

“(Kamper and Hicks) were down 4-1 at one point and brought it all the way back,” RC head coach Sherwin Heyboer said. “I was pleased to see that.

“The girls are fairly solid, they have their moments.”

It wasn’t all bad news for the Indians Tuesday.

In the No. 1 boys singles match, Matt Mendonca bested Maurice Ball, 6-1, 6-4, and in the No. 1 boys doubles match, Chris Kem and Tanner Clarke beat Josiah Neeley and Jeff Hulsey, 6-3, 6-1.

“The boys had a very strong showing,” Ripon head coach Paul Calkins said. “I was pleased with Matt’s play, and (Kem and Clarke) played a very smart match as well.

“The hard work for the boys is starting to pay off. Our girls are still young and RC’s girls are very tough.”

Ripon travels to Hughson Tuesday, while the Knights head to Escalon Thursday.
