RIPON — The Ripon Indians collected their third straight Trans Valley League soccer championship Wednesday with a breezy 5-0 win over Modesto Christian.

Ripon is now four games ahead of Hughson in the standings with three games remaining.

Over the course of the past three TVL seasons, the Indians are 41-1.

Win No. 41 resembled the first 40 in many ways, as Ripon had scored all five before half and played substitute-heavy, defensive-minded ball in the second half.

Meredith Perkins scored two, none more impressive than a three-touch score off a goal kick that was headed backward at midfield to a streaking Perkins from Renae McFadden.

McFadden had two assists and a goal of her own.

Kallie Jacobs curled in a corner kick for the first time this season against the wind, and Lauren Goeppert knocked in a 25-yard strike off a McFadden help to cap the scoring before half.

Ripon’s next goal is to go undefeated in league. Matches with Escalon and Hughson remain.

The big prize, however, is an elusive section title that the Indians feel could have gone their way in each of the past two seasons.

“We could be going for a three-peat in sections,” Ripon assistant coach Bryce Perkins said.

Kate Isganitis was phenomenal in the second half, collecting six steals.

Ripon (12-0 TVL, 19-0-1) heads to RC Friday.

Hughson looms Wednesday.

Hughson was hoping for a miracle Wednesday that didn’t come through, so the Huskies took it out on the Knights.

Kailee Adams scored RC’s lone goal on an Emily Leahy assist.

Keeper Beth Van Vliet finished with 10 saves.

“Part of our problem today was losing three of our top players to a choir tour,” RC head coach Travis Haveman said. “We had a rough first half, facing a bit of a breeze, we allowed seven.

“The second half was much more respectable. I’m proud of them for keeping a good attitude.”

RC (0-10-2 TVL, 4-12-2) hosts Ripon Friday.
