STOCKTON – Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in this country. About one million Americans develop skin cancer each year. Although researchers cannot explain why one person develops skin cancer and another does not, we do know that taking precautions to protect our skin and early detection are the best weapons in the fight against skin cancer.

St. Joseph’s Regional Cancer Center will offer free skin cancer screenings on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. by appointment only. The screenings, which will be performed by board certified physicians, will be held at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, 1800 North California Street, Stockton.

Participants will have an opportunity to talk with certified oncology professionals and receive educational materials to prevent skin cancer.
