STOCKTON — Former East Union standout ballplayer Ryan Fisher, now an integral piece of the puzzle for the No. 1 ranked UC Irvine Anteaters, has returned home for a weekend series with the Tigers at the University of the Pacific.

Fisher batted seventh in the Irvine lineup Friday night in an 11-6 win, going 1 for 5 with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth that knotted the score at five apiece.

Fisher is in his third year at Irvine and thus far his redshirt sophomore season has been a huge success.

Fisher is batting .309 at the plate with five home runs and 24 RBIs. He’s also hit six doubles and three triples and has a slugging percentage of .527, second only to Francis Larson among the full time starters.

Last season, Fisher batted .301, enjoyed a seven-game hit streak at one point, and hit two home runs in his first collegiate game against Nevada.

A civil engineering major at the academically rigorous UCI, Fisher played with the San Luis Obispo Blues independent league squad the summer of his freshman year and raked at .412 clip, good enough to be named an all-star.
Fisher is the brother of current East Union senior, Garret, who plans to attend Irvine and play alongside his brother.

Fisher and the top-ranked Eaters play two more at Klein Family Field this weekend.

Today’s contest begins at 5:35 p.m. and a 1 p.m. matinee follows Sunday.
