Anthony Gourdine, born and raised in the projects of Brooklyn, began singing as a teenager. In 1955 he put together a group, the Duponts, who began singing for friends and soon got a recording contract.

After high school he joined the Chesters as lead singer. The group later became the Imperials and their first record was “Tears On My Pillow,” which launched their careers and has continued to be one of the most enduring love ballads.

The name change came about when famed radio DJ Alan Freed introduced the record as by “Little Anthony and the Imperials” and the name stuck. Several more hits followed, including “Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop.”

The group disbanded and reformed several times and turned out hits like “I’m On the Outside Looking In,” “Goin’ Out of My Head” and “Hurt So Bad.”

Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel is located at 12222 New York Ranch Road, Jackson. For more information, call 800-822-9466 or visit JacksonCasino.com.
