Eugenia Gaines Pappas passed away on May 6, 2009 in Pleasanton, Ca. She was born on October 27, 1912 in Greece. Eugenia (Jean) was preceded in death by her husband John Pappas in 1974. She also joins her siblings in heaven; Ted, William and Peter Gaines, Stella Manuse and Katherine Gaines.
She is survived by her children: Elaine Bohne of Walnut Creek, John Pappas and wife Jan of Pleasanton, and James Pappas and wife Marilyn of Hawaii. She also has two surviving sisters Sauter Constantine of Redding and Freda Nixon of San Lorenzo. She was blessed by 12 grandchild and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition she has one cousin Ted Poulos of Manteca and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Eugenia attended Yosemite Elementary School and Manteca High School. In 1932 she married John Pappas and moved to San Francisco. In 1949 she and her family moved back to Manteca where she was active in the PTA, Eagles Club and an officer in the Happy Travelers Club. She received an outstanding member award for her services from the Eagles Club.
While living in San Francisco she was employed at the Emporium Department Store and worked at the Palm Haven Convalescent Home in Manteca before she retired. She was an active member of St. Basil’s Greek Church in Stockton. She will be remembered as a very compassionate person who loved to grow her own herbs, vegetables and flowers, which she shared with many friends and family members. Eugenia’s many talents included crocheting, needlepoint work and baking wonderful Greek goodies.
