MODESTO – The Gallo Center for the Arts will present an afternoon of Big Band music with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and Bill Tole, with special guests Mary Ann Mobley and the String of Pearls on Friday, April 27, at 2 p.m..

The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra sold records well in the late thirties, but as the forties got under way it was apparent that his momentum was increasing.  With hits like “Amapola” and “Green Eyes” featuring Helen O’Connell, the band jumped to the top of the charts making Jimmy the biggest success story of the year.  Other hit-selling records and a series of motion pictures followed, establishing the group firmly on top. The leadership has now passed to Bill Tole who will continue to bring joy to young and the “young at heart” as they enjoy the sounds of American big band music.

Mary Ann Mobley is a former Miss America who has achieved success in film, television, Broadway, personal appearances and documentary filmmaking. She is a Golden Globe winner and was the first woman to be inducted into the University of Mississippi Alumni Hall of Fame.

String of Peals combines the innovative vocal jazz stylings of Perry Hart, Katheryne High, and Warren Adams to create an electrifying new dimension in popular music. Their three-part harmony and intricate vocal counterpoint span the eras of the popular tune when they bring a ‘contemporary texture to the likes of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Duke Ellington. They are accompanied by many of the finest jazz musicians in the country to help create with each performance a unique musical and visual masterpiece of excitement.

Tickets range from $19 to $69. A 15% discount is available for groups of 15 or more.  For tickets and more information, visit www.GalloArts.org or call (209) 338-2100.
