MODESTO — Prospect Theater Project and The Gallo Center for the Arts are joining again to bring John Steinbeck’s Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning novel, “The Grapes of Wrath,” to the Gallo Center stage May 4-5 and 9-13.
The performance of the classic story follows the partnering organizations highly successful production of “To Kill A Mockingbird” which played at the Gallo Center in the 2010/2011 season.
Adapted for the stage by Frank Galati and directed by the Prospect Theater Project’s Artistic Director Jack Souza, “The Grapes of Wrath” tells the life-affirming story of a Great Depression-era family who overcomes hardships associated with leaving their Oklahoma home in search of a better life in California.
“Like ‘To Kill A Mockingbird,’ ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ is an adaptation of one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century. It will bring the depression-era story to vivid life,” said Jim Johnson, PhD, Arts and Education Coordinator at the Gallo Center for the Arts. “It is a production that no theatre lover should miss.”
The Grapes of Wrath plays at 8 p.m. on May 4, 5, 11 and 12. Matinees at 2 p.m.will play on May 9, 10 and 13. Tickets are on sale now and range from $8 to $15. Groups of 15 or more are eligible for a 15% discount. For tickets and more information, visit www.galloarts.org or call (209) 338-2100.
