The Stockton Trap and Skeet Club recently went with bio-degradable targets.

The reason for the change was due to a problem at the pitch plant coupled with the regular targets no longer being available.

These bio-degradable targets also came with a higher manufacturer price tag. As a result, the Stockton Trap and Skeet Club found it necessary to pass the cost to shooters.

Located at 4343 N. Ashley Lane, the shotgun-only range facility is open year-round to both members and the public.

Shooters can take aim at such challenges as skeet, trap, five stand, helice (ZZ bird), and sporting clays.

The Stockton Trap and Skeet Club can be found at the Waterloo Gun and Bocci Club, which was founded in 1947 by a group of shooters from east Stockton that enjoyed shooting trap on the north end of Lucky Ranch along Mosher Slough.

They moved to Jack Tone Road just north of the Calaveras River in 1948, changing their name to the Calaveras Blue Rock Gun Club.

In time, they were on the move again, renting two acres of the present 35-acre site from Fred Tozi and Emil Delucchi with the intention of purchasing the entire parcel. A small club house was also built there.

The Calaveras Blue Rock Club soon became the Waterloo Gun Club and, by 1953, joined forces with Bocce players.

The Stockton Trap and Skeet Club, meanwhile, are over 100 members strong while serving as host to some of the top tournaments.

Included are the Tiro de Oro trap shoot, top skeet tournaments (The Pud Runners, Western Open, Zone 7, Nor-Cal, and the Junior World), the California Indian Potlatch, and the US Helice Association selection matches.
