Ripon man faces child pornography charges

RIPON — Ripon Police detectives arrested child pornography suspect, Robert James Poeschl, III, 44,  Friday morning at his East Frontage Road apartment without incident.

First Sergeant Steve Merchant said his investigators received intelligence from the Sacramento Valley High Tech Crimes Task Force on Wednesday that child pornography had been accessed and downloaded in Ripon.

Detective initiated an investigation and obtained a search warrant to seize the suspect’s personal and electronic information, electronic devices and communications.  Shortly before 8 a.m. Friday officers served the search warrant in the 100 block of East Frontage Road.

Sgt. Merchant said the suspect was the lone occupant of the apartment. When he was contacted detectives saw multiple images of suspected child pornography on the screen of the man’s computer.

He was immediately taken into custody and evidence was seized in the investigation.  He was transported to the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.  Poeschl was charged with a felony for depicting sexual conduct of a child under 14 and a misdemeanor for the possession of matter depicting a person under 18.

He is being held in lieu of $78,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court on Tuesday, May 8, at 1:25 p.m.
