Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
I am in agreement with Dennis Wyatt’s, ‘Op Ed “Time to dismantle Sacramento and rebuild from the ground up.” However, I would like to see it taken a step further, in which the entire state government be rebuilt from the ground up.

All his common sense reasons and points could and should be applied to the rest of Sacramento to include all levels of government.

As to the budget, my understanding is, we must meet several legal obligations as required. However, with unemployment rampart, i.e. 15.6% in San Joaquin County and 11% state wide for the month of April 2009. Other counties are even higher, i.e. Colusa over 19%, Imperial over 16% with still others in hot pursuit. With the projected cuts of 5000 or more state employees and with the defeat of the props this month, how many more state employees and private citizens will be affected? One could only imagine what our elected officials are doing for the pay they make.

I, for one proposes they cut their own pay by 50% to include the discontinuance of all per-diem, free cars, benefits, etc.

In my humble reasoning, they must live within the means as the rest of the citizens (i.e. private and public sectors) do state wide. Have the elected officials and bureaucrats become so entrenched and distant they have forgotten what it is like out here in the real world? Time for them to get back to their districts to meet with the citizens of this great state; i.e. entrepreneurs, business owners, etc. and be reacquainted with them again. They know we are the ones that have elected them year after year and pay the wages too.

We need citizens to lead this great state with a bold clear vision rooted on a rock solid foundation. Citizens that have the expertise, knowledge, wisdom, ability to identify with us, compassion and conviction in their values and beliefs, ability to identify the problems and implement the solutions and follow through with such, to manage this situation without unnecessary burdens, and know how to take charge and to inspire us like in past years as in Reagan, Truman, FDR, etc. have done.

If anyone is interested in drafting and signing a petition and letter to our leaders in Sacramento in regard to our current situation and one to President Obama in regards to the Federal Stimulus, they may contact me as follows: Bernhardt N. Arnold, P.O. Box 623, Manteca, CA 95336.
