Major crime drops 11.4% in Manteca

The 11 categories of crime that the FBI rates the general overall safety of a community dropped 11.4 percent in the first four months of the year compared to the same period in 2008.
It is part of a continuing trend for over a year that has seen most crimes drop in Manteca.
The felonies that are also known as Part 1 crimes have dropped from 2008 to 2009 on a January through April comparison were:
•aggravated assault down 46.67 percent from 30 to 16.
•commercial burglary down 23.33 percent from  60 to 46.
•other burglary down 76.92 percent from 13 to 3.
•auto burglary down 26.20 percent from 271 to 200.
•grand theft down 21.51 percent from 93 to 73.
•vehicle theft down 10.17 percent from 118 to 106.
Crimes that increases were:
•rape and unlawful intercourse up 62.50 percent from 8 to 13.
•robbery up 21.74 percent from 23 to 28.
•residential burglary up 11.65 percent from 103 to 115.
•arson up 400 percent from 1 to 5.
•all other felonies up 3.81 percent from 210 to 218.
There was no change in the homicide rate.
Misdemeanor thefts for the first four months of 2009 were down 27.11 percent from 273 to 199. All other misdemeanors were down 7.17 percent from 1,144 to 1,062.
Total narcotics offenses were up 20.47 percent from 171 to 206. Alcohol offenses were down 3.95 percent from 228 to 219 while domestic violence offenses were down 6.72 percent from 119 to 111.
The value of stolen property was down 45.96 percent from $2,746,150 to $1,484,130.
Overall arrests were down 6.07 percent from 1,317 to 1,237.
Purists dropped by 30 percent from 10 to 7 while use of force was off 29.41 percent from 17 to 12.
