Spreckels Park BMX in Manteca will be hosting a clinic for new and novice riders this Saturday.
This clinic will cover basic track skills, introduction to BMX racing, gate starts, jumps and turns. The cost for the clinic is $5, and participants only need to pay that amount to race that same day.
Riders of all ages are welcome and are encouraged to have a BMX or mountain style bicycle, helmet, long sleeves and long pants. Loaner equipment is available at the track. Races will take place after the clinic. Signups and practice runs are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with racing starting as soon as possible.
Last Sunday, a special Mother’s Day race highlighted the event, as BMX moms had the opportunity to race each other on the course.
Manteca’s Kim Mejorado led the race from the start and took home the win. Lots of smiles were seen from the spectators and racers alike.
The 41-and-over race had a full gate of eight racers. Jason Lish of Modesto took home the win, with lots of action in the main event.
New riders are encouraged to join, as the divisions are based on age, and skill level. ABA BMX membership information is available on race day
The track is located at Spreckels Avenue (cross street Moffat Blvd.). There is free admission for spectators, and a $10 entry fee for racing. Call the track’s hotline at (209) 603-1670 for more information.
