Modesto Junior College assistant men’s basketball coach Chris Teeven has been hired to take over the Weston Ranch High boys program.

Weston Ranch athletic director Pat King informed the Bulletin about the hire on Friday.

Teeven replaces Ryan Bono as varsity head coach. Bono manned the position for four years and guided the Cougars to their third Valley Oak League championship in 2011. They went undefeated in league, strung together a program-best 20 game-winning streak and finished 26-4. Weston Ranch compiled a 73-39 record under Bono.

Teeven is a 2006 graduate of Beyer High in Modesto. He excelled as Modesto JC’s point guard during the 2007-08 season and led the state with 9.6 assists per game. In 2008 he transferred to Stanislaus State in Turlock where he played for one season before returning to MJC to start his coaching career.

Teeven inherits a team that placed second in the VOL (10-4) and finished 19-9 overall but failed to reach expectations after its record 2010-11 season.

Among the team’s top players returning are 6-foot-4 guard Dylan Alexander and 6-7 center Daiveon Leverett. Both will be seniors.
