You had to have a ticket to get into the graduation ceremonies at Stella Brockman School Tuesday evening.

The school gym, which was the venue for the commencement exercises, is a large building. But school administrators chose to stay on the safe side and avoid overcrowding, so they issued admission tickets – six per graduating student for their family and close friends.

The roughly hour-long program was a lively one, interspersed with musical and poetry numbers. One of the musical highlights of the evening was a special performance by graduates Emma Hunter and Madeline Banks who sang “What About the Stars?” The musical piece was written and composed by Hunter who also served as the piano accompanist as well as co-vocalist with Banks.

The lyrics Hunter wrote reads, in part: “Your dreams, did you follow?/ Did you nourish?/ Did you stand beside them?/ Did you help others along the way?/ Turn their night into day?/ Did you?/ Did you?/ Follow your dreams, let them fly; never ever let them die, till the sun runs cold.”

Other featured singers were graduates Shariah Davidson, Cristiana German, Anny Vang, Gabrielle  Ramirez, Hailey Salazar and  Sabrina Wilson who sang “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.

The class gift on behalf of the graduates was presented by class president Olivia Chhoy and spirit commissioner Melanie Kiesel. Graduate Kimi Kaur led the nostalgic walk down memory lane with her speech, “Commemorating the Past,” while Anny Vang gave a speech on “What the Future May Hold.”

Awarding the diplomas were Manteca Unified School Board president Mike Seelye along with school principal Diane Medeiros.

The graduates marched to the familiar tune of “Pomp and Circumstance” performed by the school band.
