East Union’s girls soccer team annexed its first Valley Oak League championship since 2001 this spring and was further rewarded for the feat during the annual coaches meeting.

Sophomore striker Isela Rivera was voted Most Valuable Player, and Jim Todd and Juan Sandoval were named Co-Head Coaches of the Year.

The Lancers went 13-0-1 (19-2-3 overall) during what was an ultra-competitive league season. Fifth-place Kimball halted their win streak on April 25 with a 2-2 draw.

Rivera recorded 17 of her area-high 29 overall goals in league. She contributed to scoring in all 14 of East Union’s conference matches, adding 11 assists.

Fellow Lancers Regina Dias and Maddy Meyer are all-VOL first team midfielders. Dias, a sophomore, scored 10 goals and eight assists overall, while Meyer, a senior, added five and 11, respectively. Selected to the first-team defense was junior Kianna Lamont.

Runner-up Manteca (9-3-2, 16-7-3) boasted one of the league’s top defenses, and that was recognized in the all-VOL voting. Fourth-year senior Jimi Guibor — who allowed 1.08 goals per game and racked up 169 saves and 13 shutouts in 24 appearances — was named the first-team goalkeeper and is joined by Buffalo defenders Samantha Grieman and Breanne Hatfield.

Junior forward Sialei Manuleleua paced Manteca with 12 goals and 11 assists and earned a spot on the first team.

For third-place Sierra (8-3-3, 12-6-5), senior defender Ashley Sohal, junior midfielder Asia Cortez (seven goals, seven assists) and sophomore forward Naomi Nunis (14 G, 5 A) were selected to the all-league first team.

Junior forward Adriana Rodriguez, who netted seven goals to go with one assist for Weston Ranch (1-12-1, 1-17-2), rounds out Manteca-area first-team honorees.

East Union freshman Adrieanna Wood (0.44 GAA, 12 SO) and Sierra senior Lia Unterholzner (0.88 GAA, 12 SO) were voted second-team goalies.

Second-team defenders are sophomore Rachel Sianez and senior Selena daSilva, both of East Union, and junior Jasmine Odell of Manteca.

East Union junior Kianna Lamont, Lathrop sophomore Sierra Downum, Sierra sophomore Daisy Rivera and Weston Ranch junior Alexcia Sanchez are part of the second-team midfield.

The two second-team forward spots went to East Union sophomore Meghan Wallace (18 G, 9 A) and Sierra sophomore Jessica Cuenca (8 G, 5 A).
