Several area standouts were recognized on the 2012 Valley Oak League All-League Baseball team, including a pair of first-team pitchers and four of the five first-team infield positions.

Manteca High sophomore ace Jake Corn and Weston Ranch senior Tyler Scharnow joined Sonora’s Ryan Stevenson for the pitcher spots. Corn turned in a 5-1 VOL season, striking out 73 batters while sustaining a relatively low 1.56 era.

Scharnow did not reap the benefits of consistent offensive support at Weston Ranch, hampering his 2-4 league record. The Cougars’ ace did close the league season with a 1.93 earned run average.

East Union’s Steven Gigili (.372, 3 HR, 12 RBI), Lathrop’s Mikey Pereznegron (.356, 7 RBI, 9 SB) also nabbed a spot on the first team.

Manteca’ Daniel Miramontes earned a berth for the third consecutive season after a .325 average with eight RBI. East Union Lancer Brock Swift, who recorded a perfect game during the VOL season, also was named to the league’s second-team.

Manteca High freshman Dominick Pisano earned the respect of the league’s coaches with a first-team nod. Pisano batted .286, and collected 10 RBI during the league season. Lancers senior Jordan Kron also earned a spot on the first team, ending the VOL season with a .217 average and a 3-2, 1.95 ERA.

The second team features Sierra’s Mark Crain (Pitcher), Dakota Conners (infield) from Sierra and Lathrop’s Austin Plunk (outfield) in his junior season.

Oakdale put together a perfect run through the VOL season, closing the season with the league’s Most Valuable Player (Andy Morris), Best Offensive Player of the Year (Kody Simmons) as well as the Coach of the Year honors reserved for Hondo Arpoika for the sixth consecutive season.
