Ripon shortstop tabbed TVL’s top defensive player

Ripon High junior shortstop/pitcher Nicole Kaiser was named the Defensive Player of the Year by Trans-Valley League coaches.

She joined three other Indians on the All-TVL team, while four Ripon Christian players were recognized on the All-Southern League team.

Kaiser committed just one error and boasted a .988 fielding percentage according to stats submitted to MaxPreps.com.

Kaiser also threw 13.1 innings and was 3-1 with a 2.10 ERA and 14 strikeouts. She was one of the club’s most productive offensive players as well, batting .440 and tying first-team selection Taylor Vernon with 30 RBIs for team-high honors.

Vernon is one of three Ripon sophomores on the TVL list. The first baseman paced the Indians (6-6, 16-8 overall) with a .493 average, and third baseman Tiana Chacon plated a team-high 20 runs to go with a .423 average. Pitcher Mackenzie Gauden earned honorable mention.

Seniors Jessica Myers and Katie Thomas were selected to the All-SL first team for Ripon Christian (8-6, 8-9-1). Thomas, a four-year standout, held a .474 batting average and drove in 19 runs. Myers was second on the squad with 12 RBIs and also served as the team’s ace pitcher (4.10 ERA, 116 strikeouts).

Ripon Christian freshman Rachel Carvalho and Shelby Vrieling made honorable mention.
