RIPON — The Ripon Parks and Recreation Department will be offering fly fishing lessons for ages 10 and up.

The goal is to provide participants a fun way to learn and enjoy the sport of fly fishing. It is important that you fill out the registration form and return it to City Hall at least one week prior to the session.

If you always wanted to learn to fly fish but did not know how to get started, this class is for you.

The  class is Saturday, June 16, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stouffer Park, lower gazebo. The cost is $45 per person.

If you have gear, please bring it. Limited gear will be available. The session will cover what you need to know to get started in fly fishing including gear, flies, rods, reels, leaders and stream tactics.

For more information contact the City of Ripon at 599-2108.

Ripon Garden Club awards scholarships

Every year the Ripon Garden Club awards two scholarships to local students who have  demonstrated interest in agriculture or horticulture.

This year, the scholarships, each one of $1,000, go to Ripon High School graduates Nicholas Joseph Ratto Jr. who will be majoring in agriculture at Modesto Junior College, and to Marissa Kay Moulyn, who will be attending Fresno State University, majoring in agriculture business.

The awards will be given to the students at the next meeting of the Ripon Garden Club, on Wednesday, June 6, at the potluck al fresco luncheon to be held in Mavis Stouffer Park, near the butterfly garden (and near the old Clarence Smit Museum) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
