Newcastle defeated host Santa Clara Sporting 1-0 on Monday to capture its third straight tournament championship and run its record to 19-0. The team is now ranked No. 9 nationally by GotSoccer.com while moving up to No. 3 in Northern California and No. 5 in Region 4.
For the second consecutive tournament, Salyer and defenders Maddie Cuculich, Linnea Natale, Nathalie Munguia and Andrea Eusbio didn’t allow a single goal. Meanwhile, Lejla Pepic, Dayanna Hernandez, Stephanie Zepeda, Hnnah Hall, Daisy Galindo, Vivi Albor, Kaila Bishop, Faith Chavez, Mia Cazel and Alexis Vilarino have combined to score 36.
Manteca FC opened tourney action with a 1-0 win over Mission Valley United. The club went on to dominate California Youth Soccer Association State Cup finalist South San Jose Fusion, 2-0.
Newcastle was paired with Alpine Strikers FC in the quarterfinal round and won handily, 5-0, before cruising past the Burlingame Rays, 2-0.

Rockies 6, Giants 5 (Minors)
The Rockies trailed two runs with two outs and no one on in the final inning before mounting a remarkable come-from-behind victory.
Matthew Jordan, Louis Aquila, Vinny Mejia and Austin Driscol strung together consecutive singles for the game-winning rally. Carlos Alvarez sealed the win for the Rockies by pitching the final inning.
Aquila went 2 for 3 and struck out nine batters in four innings to lead the Rockies. Ryan Borgeson was 2 for 3 for the Giants, who also got nine strikeouts in a four-inning start from pitching ace Zachary White.

Ripon 12, Tracy 2
Ripon amassed 10 runs in two innings to set up a combined five-inning two-hitter for pitchers Cory Van Warmerdam, Mike Leland and Tyler Scharnow.
Taylor McLaughlin went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, while Makana Ward was 1 for 1 with a double and three RBIs.
Red Sox 9, White Sox 8 (SS)
Josh English (four strikeouts, four hits) was the winning pitcher in Ripon’s split-squad showdown at Sierra High Monday. Elijah English rapped a double and plated two runs, Jason Angelo legged out a triple and scored, and Scharnow finished 2 for 3.
Nolan Kelley was 3 for 3 with two runs to lead the White Sox. Nick Van Warmerdam finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Nick Brooks walked twice and drove in a pair of runs, and Ward added two hits.
