SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants drafted Mississippi State right-hander Chris Stratton with the 20th pick in the first-year player draft.

The last college pitcher San Francisco selected in the first round before taking Stratton on Monday was Tim Lincecum, who went 10th out of Washington in 2006.

Stratton led the Southeastern Conference with 11 wins and a 2.21 ERA, while finishing second with 123 strikeouts this season. He had an SEC-high 17 strikeouts on March 16 against LSU.

During his sophomore season, Stratton went 5-7 with a 5.21 ERA in 17 games, while striking out 76 batters in 76 innings.
