GECAC graduates third trimester students, lauds volunteer tutors

Give Every Child a Chance Third Trimester graduates were presented their certificates of completion Friday afternoon in the conference room of the Manteca Bowl.

Nearly 20 were cited for having become honor students in all subjects with the help of the tutoring program, most having four to five subjects where they had fallen below average in their grades.

Manteca High Principal Frank Gonzales showed his pride as his daughter Isabella, 9, went up to receive her certificate.  Isabella’s tutor had been Cindie Hobbs.

The students who had completed the GECAC sessions and their tutors included Steven Wright Jr. and tutor Shabnam Afzal, Harjas Chahal and tutor Amairany Mejia, Cesar Aguirre and tutor Citlalli Ramirez, Elijah Solano and tutor Gasper Vera, Yissel Soto and tutor Dakayla Dabney, Gursharan Singh and tutor Austin Armstrong, Danya Phillips and tutor Austin Armstrong, Aolani Sanchez and tutor Kevin Allred, Toni Befford and tutor Diego Zambrano, Jordan Davis and tutor Elena Sotelo, Jose Martinez and tutor Diane Martin, Paige Walker and tutor Andria Le, Christian Cleto and tutor Gina McCabe, Galven Munoz and tutor Monique Richardson, Victor Espinoza and tutor Jessica Tidwell, Veronica Espinoza and tutor Bill Cook, Johanna Rosas and tutor Salvador Avila.

The mission statement for Give Every Child a Chance is concise.

“We believe that every child should be given a chance to be successful.  We further believe that community volunteers, working as mentors and academic tutors, together with the school districts, will provide free assistance to children struggling in school the opportunity to improve academically and become successful lifelong learners.  It is our mission to give every child a chance.”
