NEW YORK (AP) — Russell Martin hit a grand slam to help stop the Yankees' struggles with the bases loaded and Andy Pettitte was dominant again at home, leading New York to a 7-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.

Nick Swisher hit an RBI double after Raul Ibanez was walked intentionally and the Yankees treated Rays starter James Shields to another drubbing in the Bronx.

Pettitte (3-2) pitched two-hit ball for 7 1-3 innings, striking out 10 in New York's ninth win in 12 games.

Shields (6-4) was sabotaged early by the Rays' ever-shifting defense as New York scored two unearned runs in the first thanks to an error by shortstop Elliot Johnson.

The Rays made three errors in the game.

The Yankees returned home from a 6-3 road trip to beat the Rays for the third time in four meetings since Tampa Bay swept a season-opening three-game series.

RANGERS 6, ATHLETICS 3

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Ian Kinsler hit a two-run double and Josh Hamilton also doubled in a run to back Derek Holland as Texas beat Oakland.

Yorvit Torrealba hit a sacrifice fly, Adrian Beltre singled twice and Holland (5-4) pitched 5 1-3 innings — looking far stronger than in his last start.

The left-hander struck out two, walked two and allowed three runs on seven hits. That was a big improvement from the eight runs he gave up in last Wednesday's 21-8 loss to Seattle.

A's starter Travis Blackley (0-1) allowed five runs and seven hits in 4 2-3 innings. He struck out five and walked two.

ORIOLES 8, RED SOX 6, 10 INNINGS

BOSTON (AP) — Ronny Paulino ended a hitless night with an RBI single in the 10th inning to drive in the go-ahead run and Baltimore hung on for a win over Boston.

The Orioles recovered from Jim Johnson's first blown save opportunity of the season when Jarrod Saltalammachia hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie it 6-all.

Instead of getting his 18th save, Johnson (1-0) got his first win with a perfect 10th as Baltimore improved to 4-0 at Fenway Park this season.

Alfredo Aceves (0-3) walked Mark Reynolds to lead off the 10th and he advanced to second on a bunt by Steve Pearce. Paulino followed with a single to center.

INDIANS 4, TIGERS 2

DETROIT (AP) — Ubaldo Jimenez pitched impressively into the seventh inning and Cleveland hit three run-scoring triples off rookie Drew Smyly in a win over Detroit.

Jimenez (6-4) allowed a run and five hits in 6 2-3 innings, striking out four and walking only one. The right-hander entered the game with 42 walks in 56 innings this year.

Chris Perez allowed a run in the ninth but held on for his 18th save in 19 chances.

Asdrubal Cabrera, Lou Marson and Michael Brantley each hit RBI triples for Cleveland, which became the third team this season to hit three triples in a game.

Smyly (2-2) allowed four runs and six hits in six innings.

ANGELS 6, MARINERS 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mark Trumbo homered twice, going 4 for 4 with four RBIs, and Garrett Richards pitched seven innings for his first major league win as Los Angeles beat Seattle.

Torii Hunter also went deep to back Richards (1-0), who allowed a run and four hits, walked two and struck out eight against an offense that averaged 9.2 runs over its previous six games.

The 24-year-old right-hander allowed only one hit through the first 4 2-3 innings — a leadoff homer by Michael Richards in the third.

Blake Beavan (3-5) pitched five innings and gave up six runs on 10 hits in five innings, including all three homers.

BLUE JAYS 9, WHITE SOX 5

CHICAGO (AP) — Colby Rasmus went 5 for 5 with a homer to help Ricky Romero earn his seventh win as Toronto beat Chicago.

Rasmus and David Cooper each hit a two-run homer in the fifth off Phil Humber and both finished with three RBIs in Toronto's 13-hit attack.

Romero (7-1) pitched seven-plus innings, allowing six hits and five runs — three earned. He gave up an unearned run in the first, a two-run homer to A.J. Pierzynski in the seventh after Toronto had built a 7-1 lead, and a solo shot to Adam Dunn in the eighth before departing.

Humber (2-3) lasted only five innings, giving up seven hits, five runs and four walks.

ROYALS 1, TWINS 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Bruce Chen outdueled Francisco Liriano to make a lone run scored in the second inning stand up, giving Kansas City a win over Minnesota.

Chen (5-5) allowed four hits without a walk to win his fifth in six starts. The 34-year-old lefty relied on veteran guile to strike out five without allowing a runner past second.

Liriano (1-6) allowed only four hits in six innings, but three of them came in the second when the Twins' failure to turn a double play proved costly. It allowed Brayan Pena to send an RBI single rolling through the left side of the infield for the game's only run.

Jonathan Broxton worked a shaky ninth for his 14th save of the season.
