Every comedian dreams about playing theaters packed full of people.

But there’s something about the dark, intimate confines of the comedy club that appeals to not only the audience but the comics themselves.

So when local funnyman Chris Teicheira got a phone call from Last Comic Standing contestant Joe Klocek – who finished third on the show – about the small-house event he’s been hosting at Isadore’s, he knew that he had something special to bring to the people of Manteca.

The show – which starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday – is $10 at the door and also features San Francisco-based comedian Dan Wilson and Jackson’s Tom Bickle.

Anthony K – the other half of the “Pretending to Care” podcast that Teicheira is a part of – might also perform.

“It’s a more old school comedy spot the way it’s laid out and Joe (Klocek) who performed with me at the Fat Cat in Modesto heard about that,” Teicheira said. “It’s dark and it’s intimate and it’s a great place for comics that want to come in and interact with the audience.”

While other venues can hold more people – the Fat Cat comedy shows routinely pack in more than 300 – Teicheira has developed a local following and has been filling every available seat at the monthly event.

And with his willingness to travel throughout the region to perform at shows – he and Krayenhagen will perform in San Jose next weekend and he took a trip up to Oregon several months ago – Teicheira is able to build a rapport with like-minded fans of the stage.

Drawing a national headliner like Klocek to Manteca is a prime example of the networking that goes into the world of comedy.

With a resume that includes being voted the best comic in San Francisco by SF Weekly’s reader’s poll, an episode of Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and a deep run in Last Comic Standing, Teicheira – who will host the event – is excited about having him perform.

A YouTube video of Klocek incorporating a heckler into his show and embarrassing him in front of the crowd has garnered nearly 650,000 views.

“When I talked to him he said that it’s dreadful coming out to the Valley at times,” Teicheira said. “But this is going to be something different. We’ve become a hot spot and this is a different type of venue and I think that plays a big part in what this night is going to be.”

Teicheira and Krayenhagen will share the stage again on June 16 when they travel to San Jose.

Isadore’s is located at 680 N. Main Street. The show, which begins at 8 p.m. and costs $10 at the door, will take place at the bar to the left of the main lobby.
