Sea Lions race to Oakdale title; Tolman, Lopez pace Dolphins

The Ripon Sea Lions were able to outlast a determined Turlock Sea Dogs club, posting 1,024 points to Turlock’s 999 in their Oakdale Invitational victory recently in Mid-Valley Swim Conference action.

The Sea Lions had three swimmers post high-point honors, with Noah Esenwein (10-boys), Andria Martin (12-girls) and Jalyn Vander Wal (13-girls) all collected 27 points during the invitational. Manteca Dolphins swimmer Scott Tolman also finished with high-point honors.

Vander Wal helped the cause with a victory in the 100 IM in 1 minute 12.56 second, and Manteca Dolphin Giovannie Padilla (9-10 boys) also was victorious in the same event. Dolphin teammate Mia Lopez (6-girls) won the 50 free by nearly seven seconds. Lopez also set a new program record in the 25 butterfly.

Esenwein took the 100 free in 1:07, while Martin won the event in the 11-12 girls division. Manteca’s Tolman won the event in 56.13 in the boys 13-14 division amongst multiple wins. Madison Hardi of the Ripon Sea Lions won the 100 free in the girls 17-18 division.

Dolphins swimmer Kelly Ball won the 9-10 50 fly in 35.14, three-tenths of a second faster than the second place swimmer. Ripon Sea Lion Matthew Trejo won the 50 fly in the boys 9-10 division.

Ripon Sea Lion Kaylie Sheaffer (16-girls) won the 50-fly, teammate Nico Vasquez (14-boys) also took first in the event. Younger teammate Jack Gioffre (8-boys) won the 25 back and Michael Gioffre (8-boys) won the 25 breast.

The Dolphins earned a fifth place finish with 586 points, slipping in behind the Ceres Dolphins by just seven points.

Ripon standout Martin won the 50 fly, setting a new Oakdale Invitational Meet record with a time of 29.87.
