JACKSON — Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort will present the dynamic country duo Big & Rich in concert with special guests Cowboy Troy and Bradley Gaskin on Saturday, Aug. 4.

The show is at 7:30 p.m. in the outdoor event area at the Hotel. You must be 21 to attend. Food and beverages will be available.

Tickets start at just $30 for Dreamcatcher’s Club members or $60 for non-members and are available at the Casino Cage and JacksonCasino.com.

The duo, Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich, have been living up to the name of their album “Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace” since 2004 with both artists taking time off for solo projects.

They both brought a spiritual grounding into their wild and raucous act. John comes out of Texas and Tennessee, where his father was a guitar playing preacher. Big Kenny’s mother was the pianist at their church in Virginia and he’s the self-proclaimed “Universal Minister of Love.” Both did a lot of Sunday singing and both credit their fathers for their love-everybody, help-thy-fellow-artist values.

The two met in 1998 when a friend convinced John to go check out this Big Kenny guy.

“He’s up there in all his bigness, doing country, rock and roll, and…Queen.” It was very odd music, but it was good stuff.” A mutual friend introduced them. “She said the two of you should get together and write a song. There’s no telling what you all will end up writin’ because you’re so different.” Rich agreed to give it a shot. “It might be a complete fiasco,” he thought, “but I hadn’t seen anybody else do the kind of music he was doing; it interested me enough on a writing level to go, ‘OK, let’s see.’”

Big & Rich have made a lot of noise incorporating just about everything into their act, including rock, rap, soul, reggae, even President Harry S Truman. And they’re not reluctant to display patriotism. “We love our country, and we love it loud.”

They split for a while and released solo albums and singles, Rich with “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” and “Country Done Come to Town,” and Kenny with “Long After I’m Gone.” They reunited last year to release “Fake ID,” a cut from the soundtrack to the film “Footloose,” which features a guest vocal from Gretchen Wilson.

Their new single is “That’s Why I Pray” and they’ll be bringing all their bigness and richness to Jackson Rancheria on August 4.
