Sister Ann Venita Britto and Cecilia D’Mello go back to their days in India.

Both Daughters of the Cross were in the same convent.

D’Mello, who was in Rome for 10 years, is currently serving the Tracy community, having just spent the past 16 years in New York, where she helped out at St. Francis Hospital the Heart Center in Roslyn.

 She’s a certified medical assistant.

D’Mello was in Manteca Wednesday for the Feast of St. Anthony luncheon hosted by Sister Ann and her Ministry of Caring and held in the church gymnasium. Included was some 350 from Stockton, Tracy, Linden and Ripon.

Those attending also came from senior homes, nursing facilities and assisted living places such as Merrill Gardens, Palm Haven, Prestige, Park Haven, Almond Blossom, El Rancho, and Almond Terrace / Almond Court, to name a few.

In addition, Sister Ann recognized Marjorie Saurageau, who was celebrating her 75th birthday.

As for entertainment, the Jubilee Singers once again performed, with Sister Ann, Father Dante and Jeff Wilson, a seminarian, singing karaoke.

Several volunteer groups helped out as servers, including the Anthony’s Angels, youngsters from the school, and various high school kids.

Sister Ann’s luncheons are made available to seniors and guests regardless of their religious faith.
