Ripon Babe Ruth’s senior-division team had two stellar pitching performances against Modesto clubs Saturday but settled for the split.

Ripon first fell to the undefeated Twins of Modesto 2-0 at Davis Park before pounding the Modesto A’s, 9-0.

Zac Carrillo tossed a complete-game four-hitter and had four strikeouts to no walks in the Twins game. The Twins rapped two of those hits in the opening frame.

Ripon was held to just two knocks for the contest, one each from John Olague and Makana Ward.

Ripon routed the A’s behind Kyle Hvizda’s four-hit shutout. He also struck out eight in the victory. He had all the run support he needed in the first inning when Richard Martin and Gerald Parente each clubbed a run-scoring double. Hvizda helped his own cause with an RBI single in the same inning.

Martin would finish 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Brandon Landwehr was also 2 for 4 while driving in a run.  Jason Angelo contributed a two-run single.

Ripon (11-3) was again split up for its doubleheader against Tracy Monday at Mistlin Sports Park. Results were unavailable as of press time. The club next faces the Modesto A’s tonight at Davis Park.
