The Manteca Rangers United under-19 girls soccer team rolled to a second-place finish behind its stout defense in the Nevada Zephyr Cup in Reno this past weekend.

The back line held three opponents scoreless before falling 3-1 in the final to Malibu FC.

On Saturday, Manteca edged Juventus SC La Fenice 1-0 and battled FC Elk Grove Shock to a scoreless draw. The Rangers ended flight play Sunday morning with another 0-0 tie, this time against Malibu FC. The deadlock was good enough for Manteca to reach the championship round.

Goalkeeper Adrieanna Wood recorded three shutouts with help from defenders Shaunie Nash, Victoria Andrade, Katherine Quezada and Suzanna Saldate.

Rosemarie Wood, Alexis Young, Tiffany Quezada, Valeria Torres, Brittney Valadez and Crystal Munoz were the midfielders. The attacking third consisted of FoFo Hafed, Fabiana Soto and Elizabeth Amaya.

The Rangers welcome new players throughout the season. If interested, contact Cher Marie Grech at director@mantecasoccer.com.
